BRAINSTORMING FOR MASTERPIECE: part 1
Building the Right Mindset: part 1
To kick things off, we start with your background, your expectations and your idea for the masterpiece. If you don’t have an idea, you will find one here. If you already have an idea, we will go into technical details about materials and techniques required to make a great work . Then, I will talk to you about the entire program, modules, house rules and resources. Lastly, we are starting by building your MINDSET around THE MAKING of a great art work. We will talk about your response to the homework, tasks and exercises that are necessary to make a big jump into your drawing and painting skills in just 6 weeks.

We decide on the medium for the final work ( oil or acrylic painting )
BRAINSTORMING FOR MASTERPIECE: part 2
Building the Right Mindset: part 2
In this module we are diving deep into art history by researching some of the great masterpieces of the past. You will find out what makes an artwork to be considered a masterpiece. We talk and explain painting techniques of old masters and contemporary painters. Then, Flaviu is going to take you into a brainstorming where he discusses ideas and themes that might build your conceptual bases for your masterpiece.

Basics of Drawing: Rules of Composition
Basics of Drawing: Contrast, Gradients and Types of Hatching
Basics of Drawing: 3D Objects and Still Life Drawing
Homework: Sketching for Your Masterpiece in the Sketchbook
Here we will start with the basic rules of academic drawing explained by Flaviu on paper. If you are more advanced in your drawing skills, Flaviu will prepare fore you tasks and homework that are more advanced. Studies of drapery and different poses of a portrait will take you into a new level of study.
Now is also the moment when we start to develop variations of ‘The Outline Drawing’ for your masterpiece. This is a STEP of absolute importance into the creative process. That will take place both in your mind but also by starting to draw ideas and concepts into your sketchbook. In the end, these ideas will be fuel and guidance in the making of your masterpiece.
MODULUL 4
Analysing the ‘Still Life Drawing’ finished at home
Study of the Human Portrait: measurements, 3D shapes, face expressions
Drawing eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair
Starting the ‘Portrait Study Drawing’
Homework: practicing some more eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair
Understanding human face from a geometrical perspective is the key in making a good portrait. Also, being able to work well with tones, contrasts, gradients and knowing how to create depth and light, will help you create realistic portraits.

You will continue to work at the ‘Portrait Study Drawing’
Young vs Old / Male vs Female - drawing gender or age

Strengthening this knowledge is hugely important. Flaviu will continue to assist everybody with lessons and direct help in achieving a very good level in reproducing the human portrait. This session it is dedicated to understand ‘the amount of depth’ in which one has to go to declare its work finished. Teaching you ‘how to see’ is Flaviu’s number 1 concern in this particular meeting and from now on!

Brief teachings about the human body
Starting a ‘Drawing Study of Human Body’
Homework: Watching 2nd Art documentary and finishing the ‘Drawing Study of Human Body’
This is the last session before switching to painting! Here you will find out about proportions, measurements, muscular and bone structure of the body and 3D geometrical aspects. They also say that drawing hands is the ultimate test for a professional artist. That’s why we will do exactly that, both as homework, but mostly as exercises in studio!

For the next 4 weeks we are going deep into the process of painting. You will discover all the technical tricks that Flaviu learned by himself in the his last 20 creative years. A few very important aspects in this period will be: the power of concentration, your mindset, the ability to SEE things that you never saw before and your phisiologycal power to endure the slow process of painting. If you will embrace these ideas and approach this period with a positive attitude, your success in building your best painting so far is guaranteed!

The final and the most exciting act is the final exhibition. Artists don’t exist without their fans, collectors and their public recognition. This is the moment when they showcase their art into a professional set-up, in the art gallery. Good light, framing, white walls and a room filled with art lovers is the perfect set-up for a rewarding experience. Flaviu Moldovan is having a speech in front of the guests and the students are giving explanations about their art to their friends, family and friends. Who is Flaviu Moldovan
Flaviu Moldovan (b. 1983) is a Romanian visual artist, designer, entrepreneur and teacher, living and working in Cluj-Napoca. Flaviu Moldovan's artistic interests are among the most diverse, covering a wide range of activities in the field of drawing, design, painting, photography and mediums that use the image as a communication tool. Flaviu is also the founder of Plankton Gallery and teacher at Plankton Academy, where he teaches a series of painting, drawing and design courses. He also has a great deal of experience into the corporate world, having the pleasure to work with the biggest brands out there such as Coca Cola, Mccann Erickson, HP, Microfocus, Betfair, BDO, Electric Castle and many more.
Currently he is hosting Plankton MiXArt Show, the podcast that is bringing together music and visual art, into an online video format.
